INTRODUCTION
Once London’s largest fish market, Old Billingsgate is now a Grade II listed events venue on the banks of the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, its former market floor transformed into the Grand Hall, a triple-height, sky-lit space with a feature mezzanine that holds up to 2,500 guests standing. Below it, The Vault occupies the old cold storage rooms, while The Gallery offers a lighter, more contemporary counterpoint, and an adjoining Terrace gives direct views over the river.
A building that shifts this dramatically between spaces, from an ornate Victorian hall to converted fish stores below ground, needs production that can move with it. Lexa’s approach at Old Billingsgate would treat the Grand Hall’s scale and the Terrace’s river views as two halves of the same event, with sound, lighting and staging built to carry guests smoothly from one setting into the next.
