About

About

The Brewery London

The Brewery London

Occupying the former buildings of Whitbread’s 18th century brewing empire in the City of London, The Brewery is Grade II listed and built around genuinely distinctive spaces, chief among them the Porter Tun, whose exposed King Post timber roof spans 60 feet above a 778 square metre antique wooden floor and holds up to 1,000 guests. Alongside it, rooms like the King George III, Queen Charlotte and the Sugar Rooms give organisers a real spread of scale, from intimate dinners to full conferences.

Working inside a building this historic calls for production that understands timber, not just technology. Lexa’s approach at The Brewery would treat the Porter Tun’s raised balcony and exposed roof as part of the design brief, building sound, lighting and staging that suit a room built two and a half centuries before modern AV existed. As an AV company working in The Brewery’s category of listed City venue, that balance between old structure and new technology defines the job.

The Porter Tun’s 60-foot clear span and antique wooden floor create a very particular acoustic, and Lexa’s approach would design sound reinforcement specifically around that volume rather than a standard rig.

Sound for an Exposed Timber Roof

Presentation technology here would need to sit comfortably against exposed timber and a raised balcony, giving conferences and awards dinners clear content without disrupting the room’s period character.

./02

Screens and Presentation Technology

With natural daylight and a listed timber structure to work around, lighting design would move the Porter Tun between a bright, functional daytime state and full evening drama for a gala.

Lighting Design for Listed Interiors

Having hosted everything from awards dinners to fashion shows, the Porter Tun calls for staging with genuine sightlines from the raised balcony as well as the main floor.

For events that need to reach beyond the room, Lexa’s hybrid streaming approach would connect The Brewery’s historic spaces to remote audiences without disrupting the building’s character.

Hybrid and Live Streaming Support

With six distinct rooms across the site, from the Porter Tun down to the smaller Sugar Rooms, production management would need to coordinate several events of very different scales within the same historic building.
