About

About

The Royal Institution

The Royal Institution

Home to the Royal Institution since the early 19th century, this Mayfair venue is best known for its Lecture Theatre, the tiered, 400 seat auditorium where Michael Faraday and JJ Thomson once presented world-changing discoveries, and which still hosts the Christmas Lectures today. Beyond the Theatre, a run of Georgian rooms including the Library and Conversation Room, along with a more contemporary Lower Ground Floor space, give organisers a genuine mix of period and modern settings.

Presenting inside a room with this much scientific history calls for production that respects it. Lexa’s approach at the Royal Institution would work with the Lecture Theatre’s steep-raked seating and existing stage lighting, adding sound, lighting and staging suited to conferences, product launches and formal presentations without disturbing the room’s character.

The Theatre’s steep rake and fixed 400 seat capacity call for careful speaker placement, and Lexa’s approach would ensure consistent clarity from the front row to the back of the upper tier.

Sound for a Tiered Lecture Theatre

Presentation technology in the Theatre would need to work with the room’s existing stage lighting and AV, suited equally to livestreamed conferences and formal scientific presentations.

Screens and Presentation Technology

Moving between the Theatre’s stage lighting and the Georgian rooms’ natural daylight, lighting design would need real range across the building’s mix of period and contemporary spaces.

Lighting Design for Georgian and Modern Spaces

Staging built for the Theatre would need to suit formal presentations and product launches alike, working within a room designed specifically for an audience’s full attention.

Staging for Conferences and Presentations

With the Theatre already used for livestreamed conferences and hybrid presentations, Lexa’s approach would extend that capability further, connecting events to audiences well beyond Albemarle Street.

Hybrid and Live Streaming Capability

Coordinating production at a venue that continues to operate as a working scientific institution calls for careful, considerate planning, which is exactly where Lexa’s approach would start.
