About

About

The Custard Factory

The Custard Factory

Built by Alfie Bird in 1902 to produce Bird’s Custard, The Custard Factory retains its original Crittall windows, exposed steels and high ceilings, now home to a hive of creative businesses alongside Factory Works, a 1,200 square metre event space holding up to 288 delegates cabaret style with three additional breakout spaces. The wider site is Birmingham’s best known Creative Quarter address.

A former factory with this much industrial character calls for production that works with its original steelwork rather than against it. Lexa’s approach at The Custard Factory would build sound, lighting and staging suited to conferences and creative events within Factory Works’ genuine industrial shell.

Factory Works’ exposed steel and high ceilings create a distinctive acoustic, and Lexa’s approach would design reinforcement specifically for that volume.
